My mother turned 80 today so we decided to throw her a birthday tea party. L. made the sandwiches, Stubbie contributed the scones and assisted with the cake when I had a mini melt down turning it from a regular cake to a checkerboard one and, all in all, I think everyone had a good time and my mom felt celebrated. The menus was as follows:
Tea Sandwiches:
cucumber with sheep's milk ricotta and shiso
curried egg salad with pink amaranth,
smoked salmon with lemon and dill
ham with butter and micro shungiku leaves
Mini Soup:
chilled roasted tomato with horseradish and basil
Classic Scones: clotted cream and strawberry jam
Mousse:
dark chocolate, avocado, Bermuda rum and Graham crumbs
Checkerboard Cake:
vanilla and chocolate with espresso buttercream and confetti sugar
