I forgot to photograph the nibbles, which is a pity as they were both delicious and a huge success. Sorry pumpkin gougeres and halibut ceviche; we loved you well. Obviously the family favorites remain beloved but this year's knockouts in the wow category were the carrot dish and my mom's stellar new pumpkin pie recipe with cardamom, ginger and black pepper. We loved it so much that we are already talking about turning the filling into a component for a pumpkin trifle.
