I am still enamored of my Blackberry Smash but recently came up with a slightly more seasonal version that I wanted to share with you. just something a little different for the holidays.
This makes 1 drink so plan accordingly
16 cranberries, halved
1 lime, well washed and cut in quarters
1/2 orange, well washed and cut in quarters, slice the other half for garnish
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
2 oz. Bourbon of your choice
Few drops orange or Angostura bitters
Gingerale
Ice cubes
Fill a lowball/Old-Fashioned glass 3/4 way up with ice cubes and place in the freezer while you make your drink.
Put the cranberries, the lime and orange quarters in a shaker along with the maple syrup and fresh ginger and muddle well. This will take some elbow grease. For those without a shaker or a muddle, a large jug and a wooden spoon work just as well. Work together well.
Add the Bourbon, the bitters and some ice cubes and shake. For those without the shaker, stir.
Remove the glass from the freezer. Strain the cocktail into the glass, top off with Gingerale and serve garnished with an orange slice. If you were feeling lavish and particularly celebratory, Champagne or a dry Prosecco would make a nice alternative to the Gingerale.
