Dark Chocolate Cake with Red Wine Glaze



I loved this cake, which L. decorated with chocolate hearts and pop rocks as seen above. I wasn't sure if all my guests would like the red wine-chocolate glaze so, rather than pour it over the top as in the inspiration recipe below, L. squidged it all over the plate and drizzled a bit over the top of each slice.

The original recipe is below. The only changes I made were to add 2 tablespoons of red wine to the cake batter and to bung all the ingredients for the glaze into a bowl and microwave for a few minutes before whisking into a glossy glaze rather than faffing around with double boilers, heating the wine separately, etc.

This is a custardy-moussey joy of a cake and the red wine adds a festive touch.
