Desserts are my nemesis and I avoid making them whenever I can. That being said, on a birthday for someone special, what's a girl to do?
Substitutions and revamping recipes are my forte but not where cakes are concerned so please just follow the inspiration recipe below. The only change that I made, since I had neither Cognac or orange rind available, was to use a generous teaspoon of orange flavoring in their place. This worked so well that, should I make this cake again, I might substitute coconut flavoring and see how that goes.
Make sure you top the cake with lots and lots of home made whipped cream.
